Thanks

Thanks a lot folks! Within no time of me expressing doubts about my viability for Wharton, i got encouragement from three people whose blogs i follow and respect. Nitin, Tinydancer and ahembeea all wrote to encourage me to apply to wharton, and I think I will.... That means a lot of extra work, but ateast I'll know where i stand.

BTW, this post by Tinydancer further encouraged me to give it a shot.

Good effort MBAstar.Hopefully your dream gets realized.I know that Wharton did offer a executive program on Healthcare Management couple of years back.It is probably still running. It was a nice program but I could not take it because of the $$$.But I do agree with the other post that MBA is all about brand image about which school you are from.I did my Health care Management to gain foothold in the health system here.It was good but the university had no brand name whatsoever. So, finally I had no use for it although I did use it as a springboard to go into Residency.AS far as your waiting for the MBA guy goes,it is inbuilt in our culture. In US an appointment is an appointment.Does not matter who the person is.I remember that i and my friend went to get some research projects form one of the leading cardiovascular specialists in the US .His secretary would not let us(because we just walked in) but we took an appointment for a later date.In our next visit we were promptly ushered in.
The same MBA guy who would not keep his appt with you would not dare to keep his janitor waiting in US. Just because he is from an elite B-school would mean nothing .No one would care and it would be seen as rude and impolite and it would not be taken lightly.

You done great in GMAT.Ur experience in Medicine does count and as for leadership abilities ,I am sure that even one surgery does require leadership qualities. You got to run your procedure smoothly, delegate responsibilities and then command the situation in case anything goes wrong.so, while u might not be aware u are a leader in every sense and in this case poor leadership might not sink a company but cost the patient his or her life. All depends on how you sell yourself pal and at least here that is what is and admired. So be confident and be yourself.Rest assured, success will be yours.

Wow! What a diverse profile - I mean how many times you get to see doctors going for MBA. You definitely deserve a shot at Wharton with your kind of experience. All the Best!

hey maverick, thanks for the positive comment. But i'll tell you, its not as rare as you think. In ISB (not the most diverse of places) there are 15 docs in the current batch itself!

But yes, my diversity os one thing going for me. Now its upto me to use it well.

Good luck! We all second guess ourselves at times, but Dream Big...it's the only way to go!
